Fastest round of the race but...

The labyrinth of Monte Carlo didn't hold any luck for Andreas Zuber in today's sprint race, as well

A collision without his fault leads to long pit stop, thus the Styrian only finishes in 17th place

He reached fastest round of the race but it would have only counted had he also reached a top ten place

The third sprint race of this year's GP2 season once again didn't go according to Andreas Zuber's wishes. After the 24-year-old Styrian had reached 11th place following a great race to catch up from last but one starting row, he had hoped for points today.

Immediately after the start he encountered a hairy situation in Sainte Devote but had a guardian angel at his side. Pursuer Christian Bakkerud (DEN/Super Nova)  overtook the Styrian "head over heels" over his back tyre. Thereby the rear spoiler of the Piquet Sports car was severely damaged. Zuber used the safety car period for a pit stop in order to have the damage repaired. Unfortunately this stop took up so much time that the Moser Medical Group driver had to take up the race again from last position, one lap behind. Subsequently Zuber's ambition was to reach the fastest lap. A feat he accomplished impressively - but unfortunately was not awarded an extra point since these are only given to drivers who finish within the top ten.

Yet Zuber has not lost his optimism: "I had a fabulous start, immediately overtook two cars and subsequently moved up to seventh place. Then Bakkerud hit my rear tyre. His car went sky-high and damaged my rear spoiler. After the pit stop I drove the fastest lap in the race which didn't count since I didn't finish among the top 10. I was almost eighth tenth of a second faster than winner Conway. Another positive side is that I had a perfect car and the clutch that had caused problems at the start during the recent runs has been improved. Also, I didn't lose too many points. In any case, I'm looking forward to Magny Cours."

Zuber‘s teammate at Piquet Sports, Pastor Maldonado (VEN), fared even worse - he collided with Indian Karun Chandhock and dropped out. At the top Mike Conway celebrated a superior victoray in front of Ho-Pin Tung (CHN) and Alvaro Parente (POR).
