Andreas Zuber shakes off the "curse" of the sprint races in the GP2
Excellent second place of the 24-year-old Styrian at second run in Hockenheim
Andreas Zuber had announced that he absolutely wanted to win at least one sprint race this GP2-season. This Sunday there was not much missing for this to come true. The Piquet Sports-driver finally was able to shake off the "curse" of the sprint races that had pursued him throughout this year and was rewarded by an excellent second place behind Karun Chandhok. Thus Zuber reached his best result this season even though he had taken up the race only from eleventh starting place.
At yesterday's first race on the Hockenheimring Andreas Zuber had had to wrestle witch clutch problems at the start but today's beginning was like out of a fairy tale: he immediately moved up no less than five places and finished the first lap already in sixth position. Soon thereafter he overtook teammate Pastor Maldonado (Venezuela) on the inside of a right turn - and when Giorgio Pantano and Andy Soucek pushed each other off the circuit in front of him, the Moser Medical Group was already third. In lap three Zuber also went past Lucas di Grassi and took second place behind Karun Chandhok - a place he defended right up to the chequered flag despite a last-minute-attack by Bruno Senna. A beaming Andreas Zuber said after the run: "This was truly a super-race today. Actually, yesterday's run had not been so bad, as well - except for the start. But today everything worked out perfectly. I also tried to attack Chandhok, to make him nervous but he drove a super race and didn't make the tiniest mistake. Since my tyres had already begun to wear off from round five on I mainly focused on keeping Senna behind me in the end. We mad a giant leap forward with the team which makes me very confident for the next run." This run will take place in Budapest on August 2 and 3.
